How do Chinese exporters start finding buyers on Pinterest? Markets, signup and ads

In forceOfficial textChecked
Answer

Pinterest suits visual, small-parcel products (home decor, garden, party and wedding, accessories, pets, crafts, seasonal gifts). It had 640 million monthly users in Q2 2026, including 106 million in the US and Canada and 157 million in Europe (A, Pinterest Q2 2026 results). Sign up for a free business account, then decide on ads. Pinterest's help pages do not state one fixed minimum ad budget, so check the budget field in Ads Manager. We found no currently valid, official credit for all new advertisers; Ads Manager shows any credit under Billing > Promotions.

Applies to
Chinese exporters of visual small-item products who want to be found by buyers in the US, Europe and other markets.

1. Which markets and buyers fit

  • Users: 640 million monthly users in Q2 2026, up 11% year on year; US and Canada 106M, Europe 157M, rest of world 377M (A, Pinterest Q2 2026 results).
  • How it works (our judgment): people search and save ideas, then click through to a seller's website. It acts like a long-lived shelf, not a chat tool.
  • Good fit: home and garden, kitchen, party and wedding, gifts, accessories, pet items, craft supplies.
  • Weaker fit: custom industrial goods and bulk materials that need live quoting. Use Pinterest as a showcase and move inquiries to your website or email.
  • Ads can be set up directly in: US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Japan, Australia and others. Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, UAE and others are served through official advertising partners (A, official availability list). Mainland China is on neither list. The page shows no update date. Shopping ads exist only in some markets.

2. How to sign up (personal / business / ad account)

StepOfficial way
New business accountOn desktop, go to pinterest.com, Sign up, "Create a business account", enter email, password, age, then describe the business and choose whether to run ads
Convert a personal accountSettings > Account management > Convert to a business account. The account must be public; Pins and followers stay
LimitsThe email cannot already be linked to another Pinterest account; signing up accepts the Business Terms

  • The country chosen in Ads Manager sets the billing currency and cannot be changed; if wrong, create a new account (A, same pages).
  • Payment: set a primary and backup card; a small verification charge may appear; removing a payment method pauses active campaigns (A, billing). The page does not list accepted card types.
  • Materials: email, an international payment card, your own website (needed for catalogs). Whether a business licence is required is not stated; see Unknowns.
  • Official onboarding route for mainland China companies: not found. The platform is not directly accessible in mainland China; use it only through lawful, compliant means. This page gives no access methods.
  • Use a company email and your real name; never share passwords.

3. Daily operation and upkeep

  • Save product images as Pins on public boards, each with a link to your own site. Recommended ratio 2:3 (1000 x 1500 px) (A, availability page).
  • Posting frequency: Pinterest's help pages give no figure. Our judgment: pick a steady weekly rhythm and review after 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Rich Pins sync price and availability from your site; Pinterest lists them as the alternative for merchants who do not meet catalog requirements (A, catalog prerequisites).
  • Catalogs need: a business account, a claimed website, the Pinterest tag, and a site with contact details, shipping and refund policies. Data files: TSV, CSV, XML or Google Sheets; required fields id, title, description, link, image_link, price, availability; up to 20 million items (A, same page). Not available in every region.
  • Security: turn on two-step verification, limit admin access, never share passwords. Appeals go through the official help center.

4. Ads

  • Promotable Pins: saved on your own business profile, on public boards, with a destination URL; no link shorteners; no third-party videos or GIFs; must meet Ad Standards (A, availability page).
  • Budget types: lifetime, Performance+ daily, fixed daily (A, campaign budgets). No minimum amount is stated there; see the budget field in Ads Manager.
  • Tracking: install the Pinterest tag; catalog ads need a catalog first.
  • Review: follow the Ad Standards and read the restricted-category rules before submitting.

5. Offers and memberships (checked 2026-10-25)

ItemDetailSource
Credits and couponsPinterest sometimes issues them; they appear automatically under Billing > Promotions, expire, cannot be transferred, and may take up to two billing cycles to show(A, help page)
Shopify new-advertiser creditRequires a business account connected to Shopify, accepted terms, new advertiser or none in 90 days, no other credit attached. Amount, countries and dates are not statedsame
Paid membershipBusiness accounts are free; no paid tier foundUnknown

We found no official, fixed-amount credit open to all new advertisers. Figures such as "US$60 free" appear in community posts, not in official terms. Rely on what Ads Manager shows.

6. What results to expect

There is no reliable public average for inquiries, conversion or cost per click. Test it yourself:

  1. Pick 10 to 20 products, make Pins, and track outbound clicks and inquiries for 6 to 8 weeks.
  2. Run small ad tests, changing one variable at a time.
  3. If clicks are high but inquiries stay at zero for several weeks, stop and fix images and landing pages, or switch channel.

No results are promised.

7. Warning signs

  • Anyone selling "account warming", "guaranteed ranking" or "guaranteed inquiries".
  • Offers to buy or sell accounts, run multiple accounts to evade rules, change IP or device, or fake engagement. These break platform rules and our red lines.
  • Requests for your ad-account password or payment card.
  • "Official channel" credits that require upfront payment.
  • Login links that do not lead to pinterest.com.

Unknowns

  • An official minimum ad budget figure.
  • Whether a business licence is required; any official onboarding route for mainland China companies.
  • Accepted card types and billing thresholds.
  • Current official credit amounts and regions for all new advertisers.
  • Catalog availability by country.
  • An official posting-frequency recommendation.
