Can YouTube help small-parcel exporters find buyers? Channel setup, Shorts and Google video ads
YouTube works best as a proof channel: product demos, factory and packing videos that overseas buyers can find by search and trust. It is not where buyers place orders. Open the channel as a Brand Account (free). Video ads run through a separate Google Ads account; the official budget page states no fixed minimum, you set a daily budget (daily spend can reach up to 2x the average daily budget, monthly cap is 30.4x) (A, https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/10486536). New-advertiser credits vary by country and offer, so trust the Promotions page in your Google Ads account; the only official terms we could verify apply to US billing addresses. Ad-revenue sharing needs 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours (or 10M Shorts views), which you do not need for lead generation.
- Applies to
- Chinese small-parcel exporters who want to show products in video and Shorts, and may run Google video ads, to reach overseas buyers.
1. Which markets and buyers fit
- YouTube says Shorts averages over 200 billion daily views, with localized versions in 100+ countries (A, https://blog.youtube/press/). Large audience does not mean many procurement buyers.
- Good fit: products that need to be seen (use, size, build quality, packaging, inspection); buyers who search for tutorials or reviews; sellers who want a reusable library of proof.
- Weaker fit: pure price-comparison commodities, or teams that cannot publish video regularly.
- Buyers rarely order on YouTube. They go to your website, WhatsApp or inquiry form, so every video needs clear contact links.
- No reliable official data on buyer share by country.
2. How to register (personal channel / Brand Account / ad account)
YouTube is not directly accessible in mainland China. Please use it only through lawful and compliant means; this page gives no access methods.
Channel (free). Official steps: sign in, open your channel list, choose "Create a new channel", set picture, name and handle (A, https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1646861).
| Type | Notes |
|---|---|
| Personal channel | One manager; name tied to the Google Account |
| Brand Account channel | Name can differ from the Google Account; add several owners and managers later; a Brand Account that already has a channel cannot get a second one |
For a business, a Brand Account lets you change managers when staff leave, with no password sharing. Roles: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/4628007
Ad account. Video ads are bought in Google Ads, which needs its own account and payment method. Follow the sign-up page for required details.
Official route for mainland-China companies: we could not verify an official page. The usual category is Google's "official authorized partners/resellers"; confirm eligibility through Google's own channels. This page names no company. See Unknowns.
3. Day-to-day operation
- Posting frequency: no official recommended number found, so none is given. Our own judgment: 2-4 useful videos a month, steadily, beats a burst followed by silence.
- Titles use words buyers search (product + use); descriptions carry website, contact, MOQ, lead time.
- Security: turn on 2-step verification, use Brand Account roles, never share passwords, never buy or sell accounts.
- Restrictions or strikes: appeal through the YouTube Help Center (https://support.google.com/youtube).
- Use only licensed music and footage.
4. Ads and promotion
Video ad formats and billing (A, https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/2375464):
| Format | Billing |
|---|---|
| Skippable in-stream | With CPV bidding, charged when a viewer watches 30 seconds (or the whole video if shorter) or interacts; with Target CPM/CPA, per impression |
| Non-skippable in-stream (up to 60 s) | Target CPM |
| In-feed | Charged when someone clicks to watch |
| Bumper (5-6 s) | Target CPM |
| Shorts ads | CPM per impression, or per TrueView view (10 s/end, CTA click, like, comment or share; one billable view per impression) |
| Masthead | Reservation only via Google sales |
- Since October 2025 "Views" is labeled "TrueView views"; billing is unchanged.
- Budget: the official page gives no minimum.
- Objective: use conversions for inquiries; reach/views to build awareness. Start small.
- Policies: ads must be approved; restricted categories (counterfeits, regulated goods) are rejected. Read Google Ads policies first.
- Tracking: install the Google tag and count inquiry submits or WhatsApp clicks as conversions.

YPP is a creator-monetization threshold, not a requirement for finding buyers. Never buy subscribers or views.
6. What to expect
There is no reliable public average for inquiries per video. Measure it yourself:
- Track views, website clicks, inquiries, cost per inquiry.
- Test 8-12 weeks, with 2-4 videos a month on one theme.
- If you reach your pre-set budget with no qualified inquiry, pause and review landing page, video and target country.
No results are promised.
7. Warning signs
- Promises of "guaranteed viral" or "guaranteed inquiries", or sellers of subscribers/views.
- Anyone selling, renting or "warming up" accounts.
- "Official credits" that require a transfer first or admin access to your account.
- Requests for your Google password.
- Claims of being "official" that you cannot confirm through Google.
Unknowns
- Official onboarding or authorized-reseller process for mainland-China companies: not verified.
- New-advertiser credit amounts outside the US: no official page found.
- A minimum daily budget for video campaigns: not stated on the official budget page.
- Latest exact YouTube monthly users: the official page says only "billions".
- Buyer share by country on YouTube: no reliable data.
