Do I need a company to import into Brazil, and where is the official list of customs brokers?

In forceOfficial textChecked
Answer

To import commercially into Brazil you need a company with a CNPJ that is also enabled in Siscomex (RADAR); foreigners can be shareholders, but the official broker list shows only a name and a registration number. The company alone is not enough. The official list of customs brokers (despachantes aduaneiros) has no phone or email field.

Applies to
Overseas buyers importing small shipments from China into Brazil who are thinking of setting up a Brazilian company, or who want to check a customs broker.

What the details cover

  1. Setting up a company
  2. Before you can import
  3. Official register of customs brokers
  4. What to do yourself
